Kathmandu, Nov 26/ Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has thanked all the Nepali citizens for the enthusiastic conduction of the first phase election of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies in 32 districts today. PM Deuba, in a press statement today, thanked all who extended cooperation in conducting the election, the biggest celebration of democracy, in a peaceful, judicious and enthusiastic manner.
Stating that the government was committed to making the second round elections on December 7 also free, fair and peaceful, he expressed the belief that the country would enter a new era of political stability and economic development with the conclusion of all three levels of elections.
The Prime Minister, noting that for the first time the constitution has vested the sovereignty on the people, expressed happiness over the Nepali citizens exercising their sovereign rights by means of the elections. "While expressing heartfelt gratitude for the goodwill, cooperation and understanding the Nepali citizens received from the international community in this historic democratic exercise, I expect the same in the coming days as well," PM Deuba stated.
The first phase of the election for electing the people's representatives to the federal parliament and provincial parliament in connection with forming the three levels of government has been held in 32 districts today as per the constitution. The local level elections have already been held and the elected people's representatives of the local levels have already started working as per the three-tier federal rule comprising the centre, province and local level as stipulated in the constitution.
The second phase of the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections is taking place in 45 districts on December 7. RSS
