NOA 16th Annual Convention and General Meeting 2017

Newah Organization of America (NOA) held its successful 16th Annual Convention and General Meeting in Maryland on Saturday, May 27, 2017 with more than 200 participants. The program was well received by a cross-section of the Newah and Nepalese community around from the Washington DC metropolitan area, as well as from Nepal. The convention theme was “Empowering the Younger Generation of Newah.

Opportunity to apprise global community of Nepal's efforts towards peace and democracy-Minister Dr Mahat

Washington DC (US), Sept 27: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said Nepal received the right opportunity to apprise the international community of the efforts being made towards institutionalizing democracy in the country. Minister Dr. Mahat, who is presently in the US to attend 71st United Nations General Assembly, said this talking to RSS representative Madhukar Adhikari here Tuesday.

Nepal Sambat 1136 organized by NOA

The Newah Organization of America celebrated Nepal Sambat  “National New Year” 1136, commemorating national hero Sankhadhar Sakhwa on Sunday, December 06, 2015. NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha and Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United State Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki offered khada and flower bouquets on the picture of Shankhadhar Sakhwa the Founder of Nepal Sambat (Nepal Era) in presence of Pancha Kanyas.

United States Resettles 100,000th Bhutanese Refugee from Nepal

November 19, 2015

U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B. Teplitz, along with Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli and representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration, and seven other countries, congratulated the 100,000th Bhutanese refugee departing from Nepal for resettlement abroad.

All the members of Nepali communities and representatives of associations and organizations, mass media, journalists and sympathizers, We are aware that for the past two months our motherland Nepal has been adversely affected by undeclared embargo by neighbor India. Landlocked countries cannot be embargoed by laws of any country. Against this reality Nepal has been adversely affected by Indian blockade.

Rebuilding Nepal-5th Miss Nepal US event concluded sucessfully

New York - August 23rd, 2015 - Miss Priyanka Thapaliya, from North Carolina was crowned Miss Nepal US 2015 at the grand finale of the 5th Miss Nepal US beauty pageant held at New York Society of Ethical Culture in New York on August 23, 2015. Along with the title of Miss Nepal US 2015, Thapaliya also won the title of Miss Best Smile and $10,000 award for charity work related too Rebuilding Nepal. The first runner-up was Miss Kausali Lama from Minnesota and Second runner-up is Neha Jha from Texas.

Others sub-titles winners are;

Miss Personality: Divya Bhandari, Miss Photogenic: Priyanka Thapaliya, Miss Talent: Neha Jha Miss Culture and Tourism: Sharoon Gami, Miss Popular & Excellent Community Service: Smriti Giri, Miss Discipline: Sunita Pun, Miss Best Walk: KausaliLama.

Further, 22 Nisha Kalamdani from New Jersey crowned as Miss Nepal US-Ambassador 2015 and 23 years old Alisa Dudareva took the crown of Miss Nepal US-Ambassador Runner Up.

The grand finale was inaugurated with opening remarks by Chief Guest; Mr. Narayan Prasad Mainali, Acting Consul General, Consulate General of Nepal, New York and welcome remarks by Mr. Amit Shah, Founder & CEO of Miss Nepal US event. The event was chaired by Dr. Binod Shah and the famous American Media Personality/Fox & CNN News Journalist; Kiran Chetry as well as Healthline TV host Dr. Sanjay Gupta hosted the event.

Just after 2 days of training and workshop choreographed by famous model & choreographer Mona Hazarika as well as trained by Miss World 2010 1st Runner Up Emma Wareus, Miss Nepal 2007 Sitashma Chand & Miss Nepal US 2011 Sujita Basnet, the top 10 finalists representing different states of USA selected through audition performed & competed for the crown of 5th Miss Nepal US. The exclusive cocktail wear creation by famous Nepali Fashion Designer; Rajesh Dhakwa (RD) and evening gown creation by Neelima Maden Limbu was also exhibited by 10 finalist of Miss Nepal US 2015 in the fusion and evening gown segment of Grand Finale respectively.

Miss Nepal US, not only a beauty pageant but also an avenue to promote Nepal’s beauty, culture, significance and support causes on an international platform has found adapting and bringing awareness regarding socio-cultural agendas. This year, enduring the emotions from the recent disaster of earthquake, we adapted the theme of “Rebuilding Nepal” and we will be continue working in this initiative till next year event with primary focusing on charity for Nepal’s earthquake disaster relief in the hopes of recovering and rebuilding Nepal.
