Kukur Tihar being observed today

Kathmandu, Oct 18 (RSS)/Kukur Tihar, the festival of dogs, is being celebrated at every household today, to mark the second day of Yamapanchak of the Tihar festival. Tihar is the second biggest festival of the Nepali Hindus.  Dog, which is an animal well known for being the trustworthy sentry as well as faithful companion of humans since ancient times, is worshipped once a year on this day. People worship the dog, garland it and offer delicious food today. This day is also called Narak Chaturdashi. People take holy dips in rivers and ponds at sunrise on this day in observance of the Narak Chaturdashi. NSC meeting focused on security arrangement

Kathmandu, Oct 18 (RSS)/A meeting of the National Security Council decided to make necessary security arrangement to hold upcoming elections of House of Representatives and State Assemblies in a free and fearless manner. The meeting held at the office of the Prime Minister at Singha Durbar today focused on the security during the elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7, said Defense Minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan.  He further said that the security method adopted in the local-level election would be used in the upcoming elections. Pancheswar EMP in final stage

Binod Singh Bista / Baited, Oct 15 (RSS): The development of the detailed environmental management plan or EMP of the Pancheswar Multi-purpose hydropower project has reached the final stage. Environment experts are now giving final shape to the plan by making an onsite visit to the areas affected by the Mahakali river, where the project will be based and by talking to the local residents.  A team of environmentalists, agronomists and sociologists led by the Shah Consultant International Private Limited is working on the EMP. Earlier, the study team had finalized the report of the study of the dam site based on the environmental impact assessment endorsed by the Government of Nepal. 52 parties submit closed list for proportional

Kathmandu, Oct 15 (RSS): As many as 52 parties submitted the closed list for the proportional representation in the elections of House of Representatives and State Assemblies at the Office of the Election Commission in the capital city Sunday. Leaders of these parties reached the EC Office to submit the list. The EC had fixed the time for submitting the closed list from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday. National Conference on climate change begins in Karnali

Jumla, Oct 15 (RSS): The second national conference on pure water, food security, and climate change kicked off in Jumla, Karnali, on Sunday. Inaugurating the two-day conference, Minister for Population and Environment, Mithila Chaudhary, recalled the 2009 Cabinet Kalapatthar meeting, which raised the climate change issues as common agenda. 17 people die of influenza virus
Kathmandu, Oct 12 (RSS): Seventeen people have so far died of influenza virus. According to Division of Epidemiology and Disease Control, out of 3,101 patients, who underwent check up till the date of October, 1,291 people were found suffering from the influenza virus. Of them, 17 lost their lives due to this. Division Director Dr. Bhim Acharya said that of the deceased, nine were also suffering from other diseases too. A total of 806 people suffered from H1N1 of Influenza virus type A,  in the month of mid-July to mid-September Dr Acharya said that all should always be alert about the disease as it could spread at any time as well as urged to do treatment soon after complaining cold and cough.  ...

Dhangadhi, Kailali, Oct 12: Rastrakabi Madhav Prasad Ghimire will be honored with the 'Maniraj Bangmaya Award'. The announcement was made at a press conference organised in Kailali district today by the Nepali Literature and Culture Institution, Godawari (Kailali). "It is a matter of pride for us to honour the Rastrakabi, and the prize will be handed out on the eve of the centenary birthday of Rastrakabi Ghimire," said Chairperson of the Institution Padam Raj Joshi, speaking at the conference.  The award carries a cash prize of Rs 100,000 in cash. World Bank to provide approx Rs 6 billion loan

Saudi university to open driving school for women

Chhetri inaugurates four Bailey bridges in Kaligandaki Corridor

Baglung, Sept 27 (RSS): Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of Nepal Army (NA), Rajendra Chhetri, inaugurated four Bailey bridges built in Baglung and Gulmi section of Kaligandaki Corridor on Tuesday. Three Bailey bridges were inaugurated in Baglung and one in Gulmi.
